Wednesday December 22, 2004- Well, it has been over two months since our last update on Emma's progress. Things have been really busy around here as I began a new career. But Emma's progress has only grown exponentially! We are now having trouble keeping up with a list of all the words that Emma is saying. She now tells her dog, Daisy, to hush when she starts barking (and she says Daisy very clear!). Over Thanksgiving we were introducing her to her cousin, Brooke (who we call "Brookie"). Emma started doing the sign for 'cookie' thinking that was what her name was. Another new thing Emma does is shake her head side to side and tell "mama" and "dadda" NO when we say "night night Emma!" or "put it back." So some things she is saying are not necessarily what we want to hear but it is a very good sign. Probably the funniest thing she is now saying is "Ho Ho Ho!" She also shouts "WWWWOOOOOOWWWWW!" when we look at Christmas lights everytime we see a house with lights. Emma also told her brother, "SHHHH!" the other night when he was getting too loud while she was watching a show on TV. She now hears the door as we come and go and that has presented another challenge: Emma wants to go everywhere! So now I have to sneak out to go to work or Amy when she goes to the store. Before bed every night, Emma takes pellets of dog food to Daisy and says "Daisy, eat!" She is now making some two word sentences and at the rate she is learning language, I would suspect that by this time next year we will be hearing complete sentences and singing songs. We are exploring the possibility of enrolling her in ballet in the coming year but may hold off simply because of the schedule this kid has!

I have updated the Photos section of the website with new photos (November and December 2004) and we have also recorded a new audio clip of her talking. It has been four months since the last update and 8 months since the implant was activated.

In the coming year I hope to give the website a face lift and do a much better job at keeping the website updated! Now that I am through initial training with my new career, I hope that I will be able to do that!
