Saturday, January 22, 2005-NEW PHOTOS POSTED ABOVE!!! Updates are becoming less frequent as Emma seems to be developing speech and language like a hearing child now and we really can not tell all that much difference in teaching her to talk and listen than we did her brother (who has natural hearing). We are becoming less and less surprised by Emma's progress and I guess that is why we have no major news to report. She is really starting to talk, identify things (mama, dada, bubba, bird, dog, cat, etc.), and even trying to sing a little. We are now deciding whether to send her to a local public school that will give her special attention for her hearing loss or if we will simply enroll her with hearing kids. Emma is doing far better than average for a child in her situation. So we are leaning towards enrolling her with hearing kids. We are looking to record a new audio clip of Emma talking a little more than the last clip.

Friday, January 14, 2005- Emma is beginning to use two word sentences now. She has started to learn how to count to ten and regularly answers yes and no questions when asked. She has also learned to start talking back when we tell her to go to bed or to the bathroom. While we want to get upset about her backtalking us, we also feel blessed that she can hear us well enough to do so. Emma is really making amazing strides and we have lost count of the number of words that she now uses on a regular basis. When tested Emma scored 85% accuracy when asking to identify photos of objects and animals. We are amazed at how weel she is doing.I have updated the Photos section of the website with new photos (November and December 2004) and we have also recorded a new audio clip of her talking. It has been four months since the last update and 8 months since the implant was activated.

In the coming year I hope to give the website a face lift and do a much better job at keeping the website updated! Now that I am through initial training with my new career, I hope that I will be able to do that!
